Dearborn Heights’ Big Apple Bagels sales benefit Zaman!
From June 10-17, Metro Detroit bagel lovers can do a good deed for those in need just by heading over to the new Big Apple Bagels at 22320 Ford Road in Dearborn Heights for their favorite food.
Owner-operator Jamal Aoun, who opened the new location on June 10, is donating two dollars for every dozen bagels sold during the first week of sales to Zaman International, which provides food, shelter, clothing and other emergency assistance to marginalized women and children throughout Southeast Michigan. The location, which is extending its evening hours for Ramadan, is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Monica Boomer, Zaman’s director of community engagement, said the restaurant-based fundraiser is an ideal way to raise awareness about food insecurity in the region.
“Many of our clients have no idea where their next meal will come from, so it’s significant that this fundraiser is related to food,” Boomer said. “We love the fact that Big Apple Bagels customers can help others eat by buying something to eat. We are so grateful to Jamal and to his patrons for helping Zaman bring relief to people in our city who experience hunger.”
