Zaman's Day of Dignity event, presented with the support of Islamic Relief USA on October 16, provided health screenings and resources to 527 individuals from across Southeast Michigan.
Attendees were able to undergo screenings ranging from blood pressure to mental wellness and receive COVID-19 vaccines, community resources, produce boxes, fresh lunches, cleaning buckets, first aid and hygiene kits, and even toys and pumpkins for children.
The Day of Dignity helped to meet immediate needs, but also provided insight into community members' long-term health and well-being. Several attendees reported plans to schedule follow-up appointments with their physicians after completing their on-site screenings.
The event was a collaboration between Zaman and several local partners, including Wayne State Medical School, the Islamic Institute of America's Faith Community Health Initiative, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Western Wayne Family Health Centers, Molina Healthcare, C-ASIST and Hunger Relief, Inc.
